The Gavita Proline E-Series fixtures are designed to work in full conjunction with the Gavita EL1 and EL2 Master Controllers, giving you amazing control over how your lights work. Everything can be programmed from the control unit, meaning no need to purchase any extra timers and relays. The output of the lights is then controlled by either timer or air temperature, ensuring optimal photosynthesis at all times.
The high PAR output lamps are powered by incredibly efficient ballasts combined with a precision designed reflector to harness the light over an extremely good footprint, manufactured and assembled at Gavita’s site in Aalsmeer, Holland. WHAT IT IS
The Gavita Proline E-Series grow lights are truly high-end horticultural products, perfect for growing hydroponically indoors. Designed to deliver the highest quality of light from a High-Pressure Sodium lamp. Each full fixture consists of the ballast, the reflector, the lamp and is individually pre-tested on the Gavita premises before sale to ensure the highest possible standards. Each of the Gavita Proline Series can be used as a standalone unit, or as part of a larger system, alongside the Gavita Master controllers, making them an extremely versatile lighting solution.
The Gavita Proline e-Series 1000w uses a unique, custom designed lamp with one of the highest outputs and most efficient spectrums you will find available on the HPS market. With a PAR output of 2100 µmol/s, there is arguably no more HPS powerful lamp available. Supplied initially with the deep reflector, an intense spread of light is produced, making them particularly suitable for grow rooms with higher ceilings. The ballast is directly attached to the fixture rather than it being a remote unit, ensuring the lamp produces consistently high-quality light while keeping everything running as cool as possible.
HOW IT WORKS
The Gavita Proline E-Series hydroponic lighting fixtures are complete lighting systems, comprised of custom designed and extremely high-quality components throughout. There are three key points to a full fixture: the ballast, the reflector and the lamp. All three need to be individually designed, yet created to work in unison with one another to make sure you get the best quality of light for your plants. So how exactly does each of these parts work?
The ballast in the Gavita Proline E-series are extremely high-quality units, which is, of course, no coincidence. Gavita have been manufacturing and developing their products in Aalsmeer, Holland for over 30 years, resulting in many ways in which their products offer many advantages over other brands. These powerhouse units take the power source from a conventional 240v line, and convert it up to 400V, drastically increasing the light output.
It is a fully sealed ballast. An essential property of a ballast particularly when used in hot and humid hydroponic grow rooms. The electronics inside the ballast need to be isolated from any damp, hot or dirty air from your grow room that may cause problems. At the same time, the sealed ballast needs to ‘breathe’ due to changes in the surrounding temperature. To achieve this, a Gortex filter is used, allowing expanding or contracting air to pass through, but no humidity or dust.
The ballast is highly efficiently cooled via the sleek, vertically aligned fins. The design of the metal fins allows for air to quickly and easily pass over the unit, meaning any heat generated when operating is released away from the ballast, so an optimum operating temperature is maintained. The electronics in the ballasts do not like to be too hot!! A ballast that frequently operates at a high temperature will result in a drastically shorter lifespan. The design of the Gavita Proline E-Series housing ensures they are kept perfectly cool at all times.
The Gavita E-Series also come equipped with some very handy safety features, in the form of the little LED safety alerts, from the small light on the side of the unit. The LED will flash different alarm codes whenever it detects an issue with the ballast, making maintenance of the units an absolute breeze. The LED alerts will advise the grower of the operating conditions of ballast, whether the voltage being supplied is too high or too low any issues with overheating and so on. The LED lens itself can be changed if the grower desires, especially useful for light-sensitive crops.
Every Gavita E-Series ballast is dimmable, giving the grower ultimate control over the output of the light. The units can be dimmed manually via the knob on each ballast, or it can be attached to the Gavita Master Controller and adjusted remotely. Up to 100 ballasts can be connected in series between the RJ45 connections and Master Controller and can be connected to any voltage supply between the 120-240v range. This makes installing and controlling large-scale installations a much easier process.
The reflector that is supplied with the Gavita Proline E-Series light fixtures is a ‘closed’ style deep-penetrating reflector. Do not be fooled by its small size! Its unique design gives not only a mammoth spread of light but also a great crop penetration. The reflectors are precision made by hand. This means they cannot be machine cast/made and so must be individually handmade in-house. The reflective surface is crafted from highly reflective Miro-Aluminium. They are deep reflectors designed for high penetration through dense crops.
Replacing the reflector is easy with the nifty quick-change levers. The old one simply pops out and the new one clips back in its place. The reflective surface of a reflector is a very delicate thing. To the naked eye, it may look like a quick clean with a cloth and some cleaning solution makes it nice and shiny again, the reality is that you can easily damage the precious reflective surface when cleaning reflectors. A replacement reflector is inexpensive and means that you will get 100% from your light, every crop.
The reflector can be replaced with the open style reflector, where the grower does not require a deep penetration. This reflector spreads the light out over a very wide range, meaning less infra-Red heat directly under each fixture. In grow rooms that are struggling with low head heights, these reflectors can make all the difference to achieving the ideal light pattern, and ending up with a high-quality harvest.
The lamps in all the E-Series fixtures are unique to Gavita, offering an incredibly high output of light. These 400v lamps produce up to 2.1µmol/w/s of PAR light, the highest you will find with HPS lights. These 400v technology lamps are 10% more efficient than conventional 240V fittings, which directly translates to an increase of 10% in your end yield. Then with the improved spectrum over traditional 240V lamps contributing to an improved overall quality of the harvest, a little extra investment really does pay off.
The 600w fixtures have a single ended lamp, whereas the 1000w lamp is double ended. The single ended lamps have their connection both at one end of the lamp, and it is screwed into the ceramic mogul in the reflector. The double-ended lamps of the 750w and 1000w fixtures have connections at either side of the lamp and are easily fitted via the lamp holders on either side of the reflector. Avoid touching the lamps with your bare hands as grease, fats, oils and dirt will get stuck to the lamp and reduce its performance. Always use clean gloves when replacing your lamps.
With the double ended lamps, the electrical connections are on each end of the lamp, this gives the advantage of being able to keep the lamp nice and straight when housed in the reflector. This also removes the need of a support wire across the arc tube as seen with single ended lamps. Every lamp has inside it a ‘Getter’ to remove any impurities in the gases that might affect the light output. It is a little grey/black square shaped component in one end of the lamp. It is important when replacing the DE lamps that this is on the side closest to the ballast.
HOW TO USE
Using the Gavita Proline E-Series grow lights could not be easier! They are ready to plug and play straight from the box, simply put up some hanging brackets and hang with the supplied eye-hole hanging hooks. It is even designed to self-level, meaning minimal manual adjustments are needed!
The lights can either operate as standalone units, or they can be controlled in combination with the Gavita Master Controller, giving the potential to control up to 100 lights from one unit. This can all be powered from any 120v-240v connection point giving you minimal effort during installation. Alternatively, they can be used in conjunction with any compatible contact relay and timer system you may currently already be using.
Particularly for the 1000w and 750w versions of the Gavita Proline E-Series grow lights, the deep style reflector will mean that they are more suitable to grow rooms with a larger headroom, giving more flexibility with the hanging heights. Also, it is worth bearing in mind that the spread of the light generated from the reflector is not a square footprint. This means that careful consideration needs to be made when you are positioning multiple lights in a room. You want to achieve as uniform a spread of light as possible, rather than have hotspots of light throughout your canopy.

TIPS ON USE
Always make sure that all connections are secure before turning the units on.
When replacing the double ended lamps, always make sure wires are straight. Bent wires will mean that a secure and tight connection may not be created, and could end up damaging your lamp.
Always handle your lamp with gloves to avoid getting it dirty. Clean the lamp with neat alcohol if it does become smeared or dirty.
Always replace the DE lamps with the Getter on the side that is closest to the ballast.
The best light source is always one that is as varied as possible! Using HPS in combination with the Gavita Plasma or even ceramic metal halides is an ideal way to ensure high PAR outputs and an extremely varied colour spectrum.
