IWS Flood & Drain Standard Systems

The IWS Flood and Drain System is a highly developed hybrid ebb and flow system. The system works by flooding from the bottom of each individual 10.3 litre outer pot. Your plants are contained within another slightly smaller (9.5L) pot that sits inside the outer pot which also contains your growing media. This pot has holes punched into the bottom to allow your nutrient solution to enter. The system uses gravity to send water to the pots and only uses pumps to fill and drain the main 25 litre control bucket. This has two quality magnetic float-valves, mounted inside, to control the power to the pumps in both the tank and the controller bucket.These floats control the flood level in the growing medium, precisely to stop any over watering or flooding. As the water is forced through the growing medium, it expels all the stale air in the medium surrounding the root ball and replaces it with fresh oxygen as it drains away.

We recommend using Clay Pebbles for this system, however coco/pebble mixes also work well.

Hints and Tips -

The growing media, plant size and environmental conditions will determine the frequency of flooding. If you are using a growing media that does not retain much water, such as clay pebbles you will have to flood the pots with a higher frequency. When using clay pebble and coir mixes the water retention will be higher, so flood frequency will be reduced.
