How It Works

Seaweed extracts are commonly used in plant nutrients and additives and it's not hard to see why. The offer a whole host of benefits such a improved stress tolerance, greater growth and yield, protection from pathogens...the list goes on! Contrary to popular belief pure seaweed extracts are not actually fertilisers though, they are naturally low in NPK and trace elements. It is in fact the bioactive compounds they contain which make the difference. These include:

Phytohormones - These plant hormones coordinate cellular activities, leading to improved growth characteristics such as increased shoot and root growth, flower numbers, fruit and bud set, increased chlorophyll content, and yield increase. Cytokinins, auxins, and gibberellins are some of the major phytohormone components in seaweed extracts.

Polysaccharides - These compounds enhance plant resistance to a wide range of stressors, including biotic factors like pests and disease. Alginic acid, a polysaccharide found in seaweed can induce changes in gene regulation with key implications for plant defence mechanisms. Other polysaccharides found in seaweed include laminarin, fucoidan, and mannitol.

Betaines - These modified amino acids help protect the plant against environmental stresses such as drought, salinity, heat, and cold stress.

These bio-compounds are noticeably higher in Flourish compared to other seaweed products on the market. This is thanks to the special processing technique used by Ecothrive which results in a unique and ultra-purified extract. The extraction method plays a crucial role in the quality of seaweed extracts, determining the abundance of bioactive compounds harvested. Most commonly, the aggressive liquid potassium hydroxide is used in the extraction process, leading to an alkaline mush of seaweed that is later filtered to produce the extract. These conventional extracts are high in potassium, which can disrupt water pH once diluted, and often lack the desired compounds for optimal plant stimulation.

Ecothrive's innovative approach involves maintaining low temperature and high pressure during extraction, effectively squeezing the goodness out of the seaweed biomass. How To Use Ecothrive Flourish

Unlike other seaweed extracts, Flourish is clean and pure to be used in all forms of growing, be it organic hand-watering all the way to active hydroponics!  It is always fully soluble and will not drop out or block your irrigation system. 

Flourish can be used as either a root or foliar feed. As a root feed use 0.25-0.5ml per litre with every watering and cease use around 2 weeks before harvest. This works great as a seed or plug soak during propagation, dramatically helps with transplant shock when repotting and will generally improve your results with continued use thereafter As a foliar spray use 10ml per litre every 10-14 days to improve propagation and vegetative results and stop once flowers start to form.
