pH Test Kit
The pH test kit is a very economical way to measure the pH of your nutrient soliton or run-off. This kit gives a visual indication of the pH between 5.6 and 7.4. This easy-to-use kit works for 150 tests and at around 3 tests per week, this great kit will last for a year.
How it works
The kit uses a reagent which turns your test sample a colour corresponding to it’s pH. It is then possible to compare the colour of the mixture in the phial to the chart supplied in the kit. You can then be certain of the pH that the colour is indicating. Only a drop or 2 of the reagent is necessary for a single test.
How to use the pH Test Kit
For successful plant growth in hydroponics it is essential that you regularly monitor and adjust the pH of your chosen nutrient solution. When growing hydroponically plants like a pH of roughly between 5.5 and 6.5; this is dependent on species. The reason for this preferred pH range, is that plants can only absorb certain nutrients within the range of 5.5 and 6.5. This is why regular pH checking is so important. If the pH strays out of this desired range for too long, your plants will struggle to absorb the nutrients they need and this will lead to deficiencies, resulting in slower growth and sickness. It is advisable to check your pH every day to ensure this is not happening. Soil grown plants like a pH of around 6.5. If you want to test the pH of your soil, a good way to do this is to test the run-off water which escapes from the bottom of your pot, during watering.
